Below is helpful information when handling histology specimens:
Specimens should be sent to the laboratory in clean containers containing 10% formalin. The volume of
formalin should at least be three times that of the specimen to ensure adequate immersion and tissue
preservation. Appropriate containers and formalin may be provided by the laboratory on request.
The turnaround time for the histology specimen will vary with the nature of the analysis required
but on average, results should be expected within two weeks. Where practical the pathologist can
customise the turnaround time to suit the needs of the client.
